In an historic General Election on 4th July the Liberal Democrats secured 72 seats in the new parliament on a vote share of 12.2%, for the first time securing the same share of seats in the Commons as their share of the vote. They are also now the largest third party in over a century, whilst the Conservatives have returned their fewest number of MP's ever.
This followed on from a local elections in which the Liberal Democrats came second here in the North West of England winning 50 seats to the Conservatives 43 seats. The Liberal Democrats also did well accross Greater Manchester, again coming second by winning 21 seats to the Conservatives' 17 seats.
Here in Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale the Liberal Democrats are providing real opposition to a Labour Council that is trying to silence the voices of local residents.
- It is the Liberal Democrats who have spoken out against the poor results of Rochdale Borough Housing and the Guinness Partnership.
- It is the Liberal Democrats who have spoke out agains crazy road schemes, and poor quality traffic calming.
- It is the Liberal Democrats who are campaigning to get the rubbish cleared from our open spaces and alleyways.
In Westminster it is the Liberal Democrats challenging the austerity budget of the Labour Chancellor, and fighting for the changes needed in this country to rebuild our economy following nine years of botched Brexit deals.
