FOCUS ON SEWAGE

Enough of this sh*t

Figures obtained from the Rivers Trust showed that in 2022 raw sewage was discharged into the River Beale in Newhey and Milnrow a staggering 84 times, totalling over 780 hrs.

Rochdale Liberal Democrat leader, Councillor Andy Kelly, told Focus “Everyone thinks that this is a problem that happens somewhere else and it’s nothing to do with us, but it’s here in our villages, pumping raw sewage into the River Roche via the River Beale.”

Sewage is being discharged at three separate points in Newhey and Milnrow.

Andy added “It’s staggering that United Utilities have made over £1 billion in profits over the past two years, and we are working on a cross party motion to Rochdale Council to take immediate action before our river network becomes nothing more than an open sewer.”

Sewage is impacting wildlife, our food chain, our rivers and beaches, and the health of Anglers, swimmers and anyone who comes into contact with river water.

Is sewage and water pollution an important issue for you?
