BENTLEY STREET BOTTLENECK
Residents on Bentley Street are facing daily traffic chaos — and the Council proposed solution would make things worse, not better.
With traffic towards Whitworth Road queuing around parked cars in a morning, vehicles coming in the other direction cannot get through. For the bus in particular the only option to get through is to mount the grass verges, which is damaging them.
The Council’s solution to install bollards would protect the grass but would do nothing to address the root issue: the road is simply too narrow.
Andy Lord believes that a more practical, long-term solution would be to widen the Road. This would:
- Allow cars to continue parking safely outside the Minkey factory.
- Enable two-way traffic to flow freely, without vehicles mounting kerbs or verges.
- Improve safety and reduce delays for busses and other larger vehicles.
Andy told Focus that “The Liberal Democrats believe that simply placing bollards may tick a box, but it won’t solve the fundamental problem. We’re calling for a proper redesign of Bentley Street to ensure safety, traffic flow, and parking can coexist.”
