STOP LABOUR’S DIGITAL ID CARDS!

The Lib Dems are leading the fight against Labour’s plan for compulsory ID cards – an expensive gimmick that threatens our freedoms.

Local Lib Dem, Rabina Asghar said: “Does anyone trust this government to protect our personal data or deliver a massive IT project without wasting billions of pounds?

“Does anyone want a society where the authorities can demand to see your papers as you go about your daily life?

“Labour’s digital ID card scheme would trample over British values of privacy and liberty, while doing nothing to tackle the real challenges the country faces.

“It would also risk criminalising millions of people, especially older people and those on lower incomes simply because they can’t, or choose not to, use a digital ID card."

UPDATE

This Liberal Democrat campaign, combined with those of many others around the UK has resulted in another Government U-Turn. The proposal to introduce Compulsory Digital ID has been dropped, for now.
