Rochdale babies should be born in Rochdale!

Amongst the many scandals facing our NHS is the ongoing failure to provide a fully functioning maternity ward at Rochale Infirmary, so that Rochdale’s children can be born in Rochdale.

When the last Labour Government put the the brand new state of the art maternity unit into mothballs, the Liberal Democrats made clear that opening the unit without a full medical team would be dangerous, but Labour has taken that to mean that the unit should not reopen. It is absolutely wrong that our community is losing any health services, but to lose the right to be born in our own town is shameful!

Liberal Democrat, Andy Lord, told Focus “This situation has got to change. We need to see this maternity fully staffed, opened and operating so that Rochdale Children can be born in Rochdale again!”
