LIBERAL DEMOCRATS TOPPED THE POLL IN 2025
In local by-elections in 2025 the Liberal Democrats for the first time won more by-elections across the UK than any other political party.
The Liberal Democrats aren’t only doing well at gaining seats, we are also holding our seats well. Historically, we have maintained a defence rate of about 67%, i.e. holding 2 out of every 3 seats we defended.
Since the General Election the Liberal Democrats have won more seats in local elections, whilst the Conservatives have lost seats both in by-elections and in defections. Here in Greater Manchester the Liberal Democrats followed on from being the second party of parliamentary politics by becoming also the second party of local politics, overtaking the Conservatives with the number of Councillors we have across Greater Manchester.
Sadly, with 18 months of Labour Government behind us, it is becoming clear that Labour are just making things worse as they take from the poorest to prop up an economy that serves the rich. From the cuts to winter fuel allowance, to the treatment of WASPI women; from the cuts to PIP’s to the failure to get sewage out of our rivers, Labour is letting us down.
