Parties elected with more than 5 MP's in 2024

In the 2024 General Election the Liberal Democrats won 72 seats on a vote share of 12.2%, for the first time securing the same share of seats in the Commons as our share of the vote, and becoming the largest third party in Parliament in 100 years. Across Greater Manchester the Liberal Democrats gained two seats and the Conservatives lost all their seats, making the Liberal Democrats the second party at the Parliamentary level for the first time since our foundation in 1988.

Whilst Labour formed a new government with a massive majority, they did this on just 33.7% of the votes cast, the lowest of any majority party on record.

Nationally the Conservatives were reduced to just 121 seats (with no MP's in Greater Manchester) just 50 seats ahead of the Liberal Democrats.

The election also saw an increase in the number of minor parties represented in the House of Commons (13) and the number of MP’s elected as Independents (15).
