VICTORY FOR RESIDENTS IN BUSGATE BATTLE!
Residents win the campaign to stop the Busgate.
Heywood residents are celebrating the success of the local campaign to stop the creation of a Busgate on LCpl Steven Shaw MC Way. The Busgate would have caused traffic chaos for the whole of Heywood as cars and lorries were forced to go down Hartley Street to join York Street at one of its busiest points. Tom Shaw welcomed the U-Turn, telling FOCUS that “This climbdown by Rochdale's Labour Council is a significant victory for the whole local community who united to stop this madness.”

LABOUR’S BUSGATE PLANS WILL KILL HEYWOOD MARKET!
Liberal Democrat candidate for West Heywood, Tom Shaw, shares the concerns of market traders who are facing wipeout as a result of Labour’s latest loony proposals to stop cars using L/Cpl Stephen Shaw MC Way in their latest loony traffic plans.
Tom Shaw said “These daft propsals mean that Hartley Street will become one way, and so to get to the Market Car Park from the west of Heywood we will have to drive along York St to the White Lion, turn right up Rochdale Road, turn right again down Church Street, and then turn right again onto Hartley Street. This is going to increase traffic pollution and frustration in Heywood Town, and will increase the amount of traffic cutting through the back streets, causing even more agravation."
Tom added that “For Heywood Town this would be a lose, lose, situation.”
