Rifat Mahmood has been selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate for Milkstone and Deeplish.

Rifat told Focus that "Ensuring that the basic services such as clearning fly-tipping, maintaining a one way system, or helping local people with their problems should be bread and butter for local councillors, and yet that is not happening with Labour here."

"Labour are igoring local people, and they are even abolishing the Area Forum so that they dont have to listen to you any more."

Liberal Democrats believe that everyone should have their voice heard and that local politics is about good democracy.  We introduced the Neighbourhood Forums as a mechanism to enable all local residents to speak to councillors, council officials, and police about the issues in their local area.

Rifat added that "Labour are doing such a bad job in Rochdale that they are now closing down Forums so that they don’t have to listen to local people."
