Iain Donaldson discusses the conflict in Gaza with Layla Moran

Blackley and Middleton South Liberal Democrat  parliamentary candidate, Iain Donaldson has met with Layla Moran MP to discuss the worsening crisis in Gaza.
Iain told Focus that “The Liberal Democrats have been appalled by the awful scenes since the dreadful Hamas attacks on the 7th October 2023.”

“We are the only UK wide party in represented in Westminster contesting the Rochdale bi-elections who are calling for a bilateral ceasefire in Gaza.”
“The only vote that will send a message to both Labour and the Tories is a Liberal Democrat vote.”

Liberal Democrat Foreign Affairs spokesperson and the only British Palestinian MP, Layla Moran MP said:

“The Liberal Democrat stance has been one where we call for an immediate bilateral ceasefire, with Hamas gone, and putting two states and Palestine recognition at the heart of everything we do. If you want a fair deal not just for this country, but for all countries across the world including Palestine, please vote Liberal Democrat.”

Movement towards a political and diplomatic solution is needed more than ever. We have to try something different. The UK Government should be backing an immediate bilateral ceasefire, to provide space to achieve that political solution.

A bilateral ceasefire that will lead to aid getting to the people of Gaza, and to the release of the hostages. A ceasefire cannot be an end goal in itself: it must be a step towards peace, contingent upon both parties.

Only a sustained political and diplomatic solution will resolve this conflict, not only bringing a cessation of violence now that will help alleviate the humanitarian tragedy impacting millions of innocent people and provide an opportunity for the release of hostages, but also pointing the way to two states and a lasting peace to this 75-year conflict forevermore.
